Dildine Elementary School History

Our school was named after Mr. Frank R. Dildine who was born in Michigan and came to Cheyenne in 1901. In the beginning, he was a Studebaker dealer. He later worked on the Laramie County Board of Commissioners, assisting in mapping and supervising the building of early county roads. Mr. Dildine retired in 1930.

Dildine Elementary School was added to Laramie County School District #1 in 1956. There were fifteen acres set aside for Dildine. Frank Dildine traded the land so our school could be built. The architects for the project were Fred H. Porter and Walter Bradley. Garton and Garton, Inc. built Dildine at a cost of $340,000. It was completed in 1957 and at that time could hold up to 450 people in 28 rooms. Three additions have been added to Dildine since it was first completed. Several more classrooms, a computer lab, library, music room, gymnasium, and a kitchen have all been added to make Dildine one of the largest elementary schools in the district. Two modular buildings have been added to the west side of the campus as well.

The original mascot for Dildine Elementary was the Demons. Then in 1987, after a parent request to change the mascot, the PTO had the students vote for a new mascot. They had to choose between the Dildine Dolphins or the Dildine Dinosaurs. The Dolphins won!
